Customize Your Reptile's Habitat with Non-Toxic Paint!
Did you know that Zen Habitats' reptile enclosure panels are paintable?
That's right!
With so many colors to choose from, the ability to personalize your reptile's enclosure just got so much easier! Whether you decide to paint a solid color, pattern, or an entire mural - we can help ensure the process is safe for your scaly friend!
Basic Safety:
To ensure paint and sealer is safe, allow adequate curing / drying time per manufacturer recommendation in a well ventilated area before placing your animal back inside of their enclosure. Here is a compiled list of tried and tested non-toxic, low/no VOC paints and sealers that have been used safely and successfully for painting reptile enclosures.
Reptile Safe Paints:
Acrylic paint **Vet Approved** (recommended to apply an acrylic primer base)
Drylok (can use concrete tint/cement dye to adjust color, does not need to be sealed as it is a waterproofer itself)
Rustoleum Spray Paint
Additional list of Zero VOC paints
Many brands of home paint found in hardware stores have zero-VOC paint lines. It is important to know that even if the base paint contains zero-VOC, the color used to tint MAY contain VOCs depending on where the paint is mixed. It is recommended to talk to the store that is mixing your paint and ask for the VOC information of the tint prior to mixing. Paint specialty stores can often ensure the type of tint being used is zero-VOC (for example, Benjamin Moore uses Gennex colorant, which is zero-VOC), as opposed to hardware stores which may have less control over the tint options, or more limited knowledge on the contents of the tint.
